When you have a sketchy connection (mobile or wifi), sometimes gifs take a very long time to upload, and with no status bar on the upload it is hard to tell if the upload is stalled, just going slowly, or if it completed and downstream bandwidth is so poor you can't download your own gif from the server.

Some kind of status bar on the upload end of things might help solve the UI issue.
