Thanks @brownsarahm |

@brownsarahm Thank you! I am working on this with the instructor training team. |
The Carpentries value diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to participate and engage fully. If you require accommodations for the instructor training, please contact XXX Let me know what you think - I am happy to be the contact person or we can use a generic email and it be assigned to me or someone else. |
Catching up on old issues... |
We could add the below language to any/all of the following locations:
"To request an accommodation for attending Instructor Training, please fill out the accommodation request form: https://carpentries.typeform.com/to/B2OSYaD0. If you have questions or need assistance with the accommodation form, please email us: [email protected]" |
@sheraaronhurt Do you want to keep this issue active in the new handbook? If it is no longer relevant, we can close this issue. Note for now, would just be moving the issue to the new handbook. We don't need to create new resources or materials yet |
@maneesha yes lets move issue to new handbook. |
@sheraaronhurt I think this can be covered if we link to the accessibility section of our website in the email you send to trainees before the training. Is there anything else you think we need to specifically include in the handbook? |
@maneesha Thanks for the recommendation. I spoke with @ErinBecker on this last year and we both agreed that we have done the things asked of us and we can close this. I'll be sure that verbiage is in the email :) |
1. Invite participants to disclose a disability
We can invite participants to disclose any disabilities which may impair their ability to participate in the training as part of the the sign-up process, or as a part of the welcome email. Inviting participants to declare a disability will help both the individual and the instructors to make adjustments for better inclusion of that person. For example, by adding a line to the training invitation email similar to the following:
Instructors can then have a conversation with an individual with regards to specific adaptations that can be made to the scheduled training to better include them. This goes beyond autism and is good practice for people with other disabilities (both visible and invisible).
