TS0601 best config

Hi.
What's the best configuration for TS0601? Should I check the "if auto means heat..." box?

I was wondering the same thing when I was starting with BT and for this particular setting I went with selecting it.

I'm leaving the others as default, although not entirely sure what they do.

It automatically turns on the "heating" mode. In Heating mode valve will always stay 100% open.
The only thing this component was supposed to do was adjust the calibration if device supports it.

It is bugged for sure, not sure how @KartoffelToby intended this to work since there is no documentation.

Maybe the bug is because it can't detect the device correctly? I see "HVAC mode auto is not supported by this device, is it possible that you forgot to set the heat auto swapped option?" in the logs, while the device clearly supports auto mode in zigbee2mqtt

I'm also seeing this error on a new TS601 I just picked up. Did you manage to resolve it?

No, I deleted this component and went for a simple script that just sets the TRV temperature offset.

Then we need some logs. We've added some quirks for this model, should fix for example the tolerance.

But that the valve is not closing, that sounds weird. Could you also try target temp calibration?

With the target temp calibration it acts the same. With this TRV "Heat" mode is made to not react to the set temperature, so I understand that when the target temp is reached, BT should turn the TRV off. What logs do you need? I'll be happy to provide them.

I'm using the target temperature but I also have similar issues with my setup.
I'm using my 601 via Deconz if that matters.
Would be happy to provide logs.

I need to say that I am really happy with the new beta.

Yesterday I set all targets of 5 TRV to 20° Celsius and it works.
My env:
-latest stable homeassistant docker
-better_thermostat beta51
-latest stable z2m docker
-running 5x TS0601 (perhaps the manufacture company is important: _TZE200_c88teujp) (z2m link to this device)

Setup
z2m->setup all my TS0601 (_TZE200_c88teujp) to disable legacy

Need to know:
-You should restart your entire homeassistant (perhaps +z2m) after setup the initial better_thermostat devices
-I never get 100% the target temp, but almost (for example 20° -> 20.2° or 19.8°)
-There could me more possible configuration combinations, If I am not wrong, there should be 6 possibilities

Improvable:
Tonight I had also set the temperature in the bedroom to 20° Ceclius for test purposes. In fact, we sleep cooler.
I currently have a tendency to sleep lightly. The TRV had in the above setup always minimally opened the TRV valve and closed again. This has all the time made a slightly cracking noise. Has annoyed me and possibly the neighbors too. So I have the TRV then switched off in the middle of the night.

Not sure if what I see is related to the behaviour described by OP but anyway, when troubleshooting why BT won't stop at target temp.
Starting with BT entity set to off.
Using Dev Tools->Services I'm calling Climate: Set HVAC Mode with target my BT entity and mode: Heat -> BT entity switches to Heat
Using Dev Tools->Services I'm calling Climate: Set HVAC Mode with target my BT entity and mode: Auto -> no reaction
Doing the same with target my deconz entity makes the climate entity switch to Auto mode (or heat/complex in the GUI) and the color switch from orange to green.
Maybe this is the same symptom as valve not being closed when target temp is reached.

Basicaly when I crank the temp up it doesnt automatically turn the heat mode on, I have to call it by myself. Then when I change the temp to lower than ambient temperature the heat mode doesnt turn off.

That's normal behavior for BT. You need to turn on the BT to Heat and then it'll try to keep the set temperature.

Hi, I wanted to provide some feedback.

• Four TS601 TRVs
• Beta 53
• AI Time Based
• Offset Calibration
• No overheat protection

IT'S WORKING GREAT!. The last 24h have been perfect.

Hope you won't mind the tag @wtom

BT does:

• Max 0.3°C overheating to close the valve
• Max 0.3°C under the target to open the valve.

Sure, it could be on 0.1°C each time, but it's good enough for me.

Adjusting the target temperature does not cause issues.

The valve temperature is jumping a bit, but only happens when it's not supposed to heat, so I don't think is a real issue (?)
Also, BT entity and valve entity are not perfectly aligned in regards to heating, you can see the yellow blocks differ: the valve is actually heating longer than BT thinks. Still, the temperatures are ok.

Here are some screenshots (note that from 10PM to 6AM the heating is turned off).

With the overheating, maybe it will get better. But sometimes it's hard, since the tolerance of the TS0601 is on some devices so big, that we tried to make it save to work for everyone.

Since it's fine, I think it's not high priority. The device quirks for this valve were fixed only since the last beta. I didn't know they existed, but now are applied to my TS0601 (I see the entry in the logs) and I believe they improved a lot because of this too. Before they were too slow to respond and had other issues.

Another thing is the external sensor. Some of mine for example just report every hour or 0.5 degrees. In that time a lot can happen and we can not prevent overheating with that. On others i set to report every 0.1 degrees and I'm very close to the target temperature on that rooms. Like 0.1 to 0.2 off.

My external Temperature sensors are pretty good. They are all Sonoff SNZB-02 and their temperature reporting is fast and accurate. They report only when there's a temperature change of 0.1°C, it's not based on time.

No they are good. Also if you just have it running since 1 day, they are still learning and will change. I put the learning start value to 0.01.

One of my heaters has now almost 0.03 and others are like your last one at around 0.006.

So all good. This is actually the point behind it. Not all heaters and rooms are the same, and i wanted BT to adapt to this. We most probably will still invest some time on this. And the ultimate goal is an AI, that takes more values and scenarios into consideration.

Hi @wtom I am seeing some overheating unfortunately.

This morning even though the target temperature was reached, the valve temperature was not adjusted correctly, and was below the heatpoint. This cause the valve to keep heating.

Why the valve temperature is not being adjusted?

How do you know that the valve kept 100% open? Because the chart shows the orange area that the heating was turned off by BT. Yes there is might be some "afterheating", the AI would start to learn that and adapt to it. But the 0.5 degrees overheating from 21 to 22.5 would be acceptable for me.

Hi, I am trying to use BT to control TS0601 (https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/TS0601_thermostat.html). As I understood BT takes foll control over the physical thermostat and uses force states to control its valve (heat, off - but not auto). Problem I observe is that whenever BT is in a "heat" state it opens TS0601 valve fully, even if there is no need to actually do any heating (set temperature is lower then current reading). Is this a known problem or am I doing something fundamentally wrong?

Thanks @auanasgheps - it actually works after disabling internal pid. Now it requires both "Target Temperature Based" calibration mode and "If the auto means heat for your TRV and you want to swap it" checked, but finally BT can do its magic and seems it can control TS0601 no problem. Nevertheless I think I will move to Aqara E1 - seems like more quality product.

Yes, I use my TS0601 with the same options, and work correctly, but it took almost a year to figure it out!

One of my TS0601 got a plastic ckack and I replaced it with a Aqara E1. It's a great product, works much better. Target Temperature Based as well, and no custom options other than "Ignore all inputs on the TRV like a child lock". The only downside is that drains batteries fast when actively used with Better Thermostat.
